Firefox 3.6.1 Public Beta adds Windows 7 Support

BetaNews reports today that Mozilla.org has released a public beta of its flagship browser, Firefox.

The beta release, version 3.6.1, adds support for Windows 7 and its revised taskbar.  Specifically, users of the browser will have the capability of viewing “live previews” of the first few open tabs in the browser’s window, including active video content.  Additionally, a new (optional, enabled via the “about:config” function) Ctrl+Tab command for switching between tabs has been added, with a preview mode closely resembling Windows’ own Alt+Tab Window Switch command.

As is routine with major Firefox releases, the 3.6 series brings with it performance boosts.  Users will notice shorter load-times, faster rendering of webpages, and less “lag” when dealing with toolbars, to name but a few.

Being a Beta release, this version is not without its problems.  Some plugins may not work, certain features may cause unexpected behaviour, and there is the ever-present possibility of instability.  As with any unreleased software, use this version at your own risk; but if you’re up for the challenge, head on over to BetaNews’ FileForums and download it!
